Waterloov In the Winter

Waterloov In Winter

Waterloov like all solid top gutter guards does not eliminate or cause ice damming.

Water that results from snow and ice melting on a roof will freeze when it reaches the eaves and gutter if the temperature is below freezing.

In extreme conditions (a lot of heat loss through the attic) ice can buildup in the gutter to such a degree that it can damage the gutter and roof causing ice dams and roof leaks.

Ice dams and icicles can only be truly eliminated by stopping the heat loss through the attic. The underside of the roof should be the same temperature as the outside.  This can be accomplished with proper insulation and ventilation. Another alternative is to install heat tapes that will melt the ice along the roof edge and in the gutters.

Waterloov keeps the ice out of the gutter where it does damage but may develop icicles in some situations. Some customers appreciate that their new gutter covers alerted them to a problem they didn’t know they had.

By addressing heat loss issues you can reduce your energy use and cost plus stop ice dams and icicles.
